Propyl p-hydroxybenzoate has a wide range of antibacterial effects on molds, yeasts and bacteria, and its antibacterial effect is greater than that of ethyl paraben. It was used as a food preservative in the production of soy sauce and pickles.

Cosmetic preservative. It is a phenolic preservative. Adding amount 0.1% -1.0%. Usually mixed with butyl paraben, it has good addition and synergy.
